TSI Pre-Assessment

The Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA2) is a placement testing system used by Texas public colleges and universities to evaluate incoming students. These assessments determine college readiness in English Language Arts & Reading (ELAR) and Mathematics.

If you don't meet college-level requirements, these assessments help identify appropriate courses or interventions to prepare you for college work. The tests provide diagnostic information and offer personalized online learning resources to help you achieve your educational goals.

TSIA2 Pre-Assessment Activity

The Lamar State College Orange TSIA2 Pre-Assessment Activity serves multiple purposes: helping you understand the TSIA2's role in your academic journey, explaining the assessment process and providing practice questions, clarifying course placement and developmental education options at LSCO, and introducing available campus resources.

Pre-Test Requirements

Before taking the TSIA2, you must complete several steps. First, review test format and sample questions at practice.accuplacer.org/login. Then create an account and select "Texas Success Initiative 2.0 Pre-Assessment Activity." Finally, review sample essays via WritePlacer Guide with Sample Essays.

For test eligibility, you must confirm receipt of information about the assessment's importance, sample questions, course options, and student resources. Once ready, see the testing administrator to begin, or reschedule if you need additional preparation time.

Scoring and Learning Resources

Scores are available immediately after completion, followed by an advisor meeting to discuss course placement. If you're unsatisfied with your scores, you may retake sections after additional preparation. TSIA2 Learning Resources at tsia2.pearsonperspective.com provides customized online learning support, including a Learning Locator Code generated after assessment.

Course Placement and TSI Completion

Based on your TSIA2 scores, you may be placed in Developmental Education courses, College Ready status, or Non-Course Based Competency Options (NCBO). You achieve TSI Complete status by meeting minimum standards, qualifying for exemption, or completing developmental coursework. All TSIA/TSIA2 scores remain valid for 5 years.

You may qualify for a TSIA2 exemption. Review the exemption criteria at: Texas Administrative Code Rule §4.54. Students pursuing programs with more than 42 credit hours must take the TSIA2 unless they meet exemption criteria, while those in certificate programs under 42 hours are automatically exempt from TSI requirements.

The student portal at tsia2.accuplacer.org provides access to various tools and resources. You can use tutorials for the testing interface, view and share your scores with institutions, and access Texas Resources for study materials.

For special testing accommodations, contact LIT, LSCO, or LSCPA. Plan for a 3-4 hour testing session and arrive 10 minutes early. You'll need to bring a photo ID and payment receipt. The costs are $17 for ELAR, $11 for Math only, or $28 for the complete assessment. Scratch paper will be provided, and a calculator is built into the assessment.
